Almost everyone wants to work for a Fortune 500 company. They usually come with great pay, amazing benefits, and lots of growth opportunities. But how do you actually get your foot in the door? These three steps should get you moving in the right direction.
1. Have a killer resume. Your resume does not land the job, but what it should do is help you land the interview. Ensure that your resume has keywords from the job description you're applying for, is free of grammatical errors, and has a few of your achievements listed.
2. Applying to the job posting is not enough. Relationships are currency. Start connecting with who you know that works at the company you've applied for. If you know them well enough, ask for a referral. If you don't know anyone at the company, use LinkedIn to start making connections and requesting exploratory interviews.
3. Prepare for the phone screen interview. Know your resume and articulate your achievements clearly. Show your personality through the phone and be prepared to ask the recruiter questions about the role and the company.
If you've been turned down for a job offer, ask for feedback as to why you were not chosen. That feedback could help you with your next interview!
